6/5/04 The QuickSilver
Loudoun County, VA
Avery Jrs., 10-14
Circuit Race
Wet, rainy, nasty, cold morning. Unlike Nathan, I raced to the finish. In the 10-12 category, I got 2nd (of 2). Dad running along side on the course helped my spirits. 2/2 (2/c. 7)
6/9/04 Greenbelt Training

Nice 30-minute, evening race. Rode with Dad for a while. Finished ahead of a few Cat 5s and other juniors. c. 12/18
6/9/04 Greenbelt Training
Greenbelt, MD
Jim "C" Race
Circuit Race
I really like this course. It's a rolling loop, with a nice downhill -- hit about 35 mph -- a couple turns and a steady uphill. Though I warmed-up a couple laps for the half-hour race, I didn't really hit my form until the last lap or two. The final lap was my fastest. I probably need to spend more time warming-up before races. c. 12/18
6/20/04 Solarex
Frederick, MD
Nathan Cat 5
Criterium
A really nice sunny day, but not too hot. Also, Father's Day. Dad got shelled at the start when he fell out of his pedals (see below). I got lapped a couple times, but enjoyed riding with the Cat 5s, a faster and more aggressive environment than juniors. c. 18/21

Jim Cat 5
Criterium
A bright day and a smooth, fast 0.5 mile course. Lined-up at the start next to Nathan, I fell out of new Look pedals at the whistle, and was 20 yards behind the pack at the first turn. I need more practice/coordination work with starts. Anyway, when the pack lapped me, I grabbed on to the laggards and stayed pretty well up for a few laps, then fell behind and pulled out of the race. I was disappointed because I know I had a better race in me. I may need to do a better job with pre-race nutrition (sugar/carbs), also I don't have that killer competitive instinct I had when I was younger. Maybe that will come as my skills improve. c. 18/21
7/11/04 Hagerstown (MD) Nate Jrs. 10-14
Criterium
Wasn't too far out of contention on this rolling 1 mile loop course around Hagerstown Community College -- though the strong/fast 14 year olds ripped out in a hurry. I rode out in front of the remainder of the pack, and finished a pretty cool race in good standing. Close to my best result for the year. 5/17
7/11/04 Hagerstown (MD) Avery Jrs. 10-14
Criterium
Another development effort, where I brought in the back. Enjoyed the course a lot, but felt pretty wasted by the last lap. I had a good cheering section with Mom and Dad. 17/17
7/11/04 Tyson's
McLean, VA
Nate/Avery Jrs. 10-14
Criterium
This was my best race of the year, maybe not in terms of overall place, but in terms of effort and results. I worked really hard with my teammate Steven Gaudaen. Excluding the fast 14 y.o. pack, we led out a number of breaks and kept ahead of the group. I led Steve in for the uphill finish, and he sprinted in for 8th place. I got ninth. Our partner in crime, who was off the back, Burke, got 10th and my bro' Avery drew 17th. A fun effort for all. 9/17, 17/17
